Nielsen’s State of the Appnation – What a Difference a Year Makes!

In recent blog post, State of the Appnation – A Year of Change and Growth in U.S. Smartphones, Nielsen reviews a significant increase in mobile app downloads in 2011 vs. 2012 (to date). Interesting to note that the spike of Android and iOS adopters was the key driver of the app market growth. These numbers should bring Android and iOS application developers high hopes for growth for the remainder of 2012!

Some of the key stats from the Nielsen study:

  • 8% increase in time spent on Apps vs. Web
  • Number of apps per smartphone up 28% from 32 apps to 41
  • Users are spending 10% more time on their apps than last year
  • Number of Android and iOS users up 46M
